In response to Elon Musk's recent announcement about temporary tweet reading restrictions on Twitter, co-founder and former CEO Jack Dorsey expressed his understanding of the difficulties involved in running the popular social media platform.

Musk had revealed that Twitter would limit the number of tweets users could read each day in an effort to curb data usage by artificial intelligence (AI) companies. Dorsey took to Twitter to acknowledge the challenges faced by the current Twitter team, stating, "Running Twitter is hard. I don't wish that stress upon anyone. I trust that the team is doing their best under the constraints they have, which are immense."

He also admitted to being guilty of critiquing decisions from a distance but assured users that the goal is to see Twitter thrive.

In a subsequent tweet, Dorsey expressed his hope that Twitter would consider building on "truly censorship-resistant open protocols like bitcoin and nostr to help ease that burden." He emphasized the importance of preserving the open internet and suggested that embracing such protocols could be beneficial for all.

Under the new restrictions, verified accounts are limited to reading 10,000 tweets per day, while non-verified accounts, which constitute the majority of users, are restricted to 1,000 tweets per day. New unverified accounts have an even lower limit of 500 tweets. The measures aim to address excessive data scraping and system manipulation by third-party platforms.

Elon Musk attributed the decision to address the "extreme levels of data scraping" and "system manipulation" taking place on the platform. He noted that numerous organizations, including startups and major corporations, were aggressively scraping vast amounts of Twitter data to train their AI models. This activity had begun to affect the user experience and put a strain on Twitter's servers.
